How to Manage Stress with Your Fingertips

Posted under Uncategorized

You can interrupt your body’s stress cycle instantly with a stillpoint. A stillpoint is an effective and simple therapeutic technique originating from osteopathy and craniosacral therapy.

A stillpoint occurs when two specific spots at the back of the head are touched with a gentle pressure. When in a stillpoint, the body’s central nervous system is brought from its usual state of alertness to a state of calm—the stress cycle essentially shuts off.

Here, profoundly deep relaxation occurs as the body is able to repair and renew itself. Finding your stillpoint is easy, and in as little as 5 minutes a day you will be able to help unwind the harmful effects of stress on your body and mind.

Find your stillpoint and relax instantly:

  • Lay on a flat but comfortable surface on your back and place your two hands (palms up) under your head with your middle fingertips touching each other. Ensure your hands are located at the place where your head is most protruding (sticks out the farthest).
  • Slowly slide your hands apart (outwards) toward the outer edges of your head—stop where your head begins to “turn the corner.”
  • You will notice that the gentle pressure of your head resting on your middle fingertips at these specific spots brings about instant relaxation. Stay here and relaxation will deepen into absolute calm. You have found your stillpoint.

Feng Shui for your home

Posted under Uncategorized

Feng shui, the Chinese art of placement, has the power to help you improve your life and health.*

Remove clutter. As it is difficult to do anything when you have too many things on your mind, it is difficult for positive energy to flow into your life if your environment is cluttered with “stuff.” Remove all clutter from your house. Think of clutter as material taking up energetic space. Any clutter, however small, is representative of emotional clutter that stops you in your everyday life.

Free your bed. Your bed is the center for renewal and rejuvenation. Clear any stored items out from underneath your bed, especially metal items, which can interfere with the renewal process.

Make room for love. Clearing clutter also allows you to open up space for love in your life. In the Chinese “bagua” (a hexagon representing eight areas of life), there is a specific area that represents love. There are two ways to find this in your own home – standing at your front door, imagine you can see through all the walls of the house.

The farthest back, right hand corner of the house is the area of relationships. Or, find the southwest corner of your house. Go to this area and see if there is anything cluttering the rooms.

You might also look to see if there is anything in this room from a past love relationship that no longer supports you. Does the room’s art and furniture speak of love by the pink and red colors? Is the art beautiful? Does it speak to love – perhaps an image of two people in love? Is there room for two people to sit comfortably? Or is this a room with dark, unfriendly colors, art featuring one person alone or a single chair without a place for a companion? If the latter, transform this spot into an area that embraces love.

Use aroma. One way to create positive change is to bring aroma into your environment. By combining the herbs sage, cedar and sweet grass (a Native American blend used in sacred ritual) you can “clear” your home of negative energies while you retain positive energies. Place these herbs in an abalone shell, light them to produce a smoldering smoke and carry the smoking shell into each room of your home. Be sure to bring the smoke into every corner, as this is where negative energy tends to get stuck.

Alight passion . Increase the passion in your life by lighting a red candle. The Feng Shui element fire fuels passion and the color red will generate romance. Add some love-evoking aromatherapy to the room with either geranium or ylang ylang essential oils. Place the oils and candle in the far right corner of your bedroom or a cozy den.

Increase energy . Peppermint is an herb that represents wood energy. Use it in aromatherapy, or tea, to cleanse, stimulate and balance your life.
